ABSTRACT
This study examines the universal values present in the children’s literature The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Indonesian version Pangeran Cilik and their influence pedagogical approaches in Indonesia. This academic inquiry is initiated based on the limited attention given to children’s literature in translation as a medium for character education and fostering global awareness in schools. Using a literature review method, this analysis focuses on the text of Pangeran Cilik to identify universal values based on Schwartz’s Theory of Basic Values. The analysis reveals that Pangeran Cilik contains universal values such as benevolence, self-direction, and conformity, which include love, empathy, kindness, collaboration, discipline, obedience, independence, and creativity. These values align with the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile in the Kurikulum Merdeka. These widely recognized values can be woven into lessons on Indonesian Language and Literature starting from Phase A, thereby promoting early understanding of cultural diversity, fostering creative and independent character development, and enhancing critical thinking skills. This article recommends active teacher facilitation in utilizing children’s literature in translation as a learning resource to achieve the educational goal of shaping a culturally rooted generation with an openness to global viewpoints.

Naning Scheid is a wordsmith, metaphrast, scholar, and thespian whose work moves fluidly between poetry, translation, scholarship, and performance. Born in Indonesia and based in Brussels, she inhabits the space where languages, cultures, and histories intersect, crafting literary and performative experiences that transform meaning across borders.
Her poetry and translations explore the resonance of classical and contemporary texts, bringing Indonesian and French literary traditions into dialogue. Through her translations of La Fontaine, Hugo, Baudelaire, Rimbaud and other canonical voices, she reimagines melancholy, beauty, and wit in ways that speak to a global audience while remaining rooted in the specificity of each language.
As a scholar of comparative literature, she examines the intertextual and transcultural currents that shape literary imagination, illuminating the subtle ways stories, myths, and poetics migrate across time and place. Her research on transcultural intertextuality and transnational literary reception has been published internationally, contributing to ongoing conversations in contemporary literary studies
